This study was designed to assess the prognostic role of body weight loss (BWL) after curative gastrectomy for gastric cancer patients.We analyzed a total of 102 consecutive patients who underwent curative gastrectomy for stage II or III gastric cancer between 2005 and 2011. Postoperative BWL during the first 6 months in patients was calculated from their hospital records.Postoperative BWL was significantly higher in patients with tumours in the upper stomach, total gastrectomy, or subsequent recurrence.
