Malignant tumors of the musculoskeletal system are aggressive, with a high chance of systemic spread. In recent years, with the popularization of the neoadjuvant chemotherapy and extensive resection, and the improvement of reconstruction techniques, the treatment of malignant bone tumors has entered a relatively mature stage. But it has entered a bottleneck. In the past 30 years, the survival rate of osteosarcoma had improved little. Many of the basic science researches regarding sarcoma focus on molecular pathways and the identification of targets of systemic therapy. Researchers are focusing on identifying the potential benefits of these techniques with regard to local control and lessening of wound complications. The purpose of this article is to present some of the advances in the research and treatment of malignant and intermediate musculoskeletal tumors.
