The pharmacokinetics of praziquantel was studied with high performance liquid chromatography in 6 chronic and 7 late cases of schistosomiasis, and 4 normal individuals. High and long lasting plasma level of the drug was found in patients, and even higher in late cases. Thus, the current total dose of 60 mg/kg in 2 days was reduced to 40 mg/kg in one day. One hundred fifty-nine chronic cases were randomly divided into 2 groups. One hundred cases in group 1 were treated with praziquantel in a total dose of 40 mg/kg in one day (20mg/kg bid). Fifty-nine cases in group 2 were treated with a total dose of 40 mg/kg in 2 days (20 mg/kg once daily for 2 days). The other 49 cases were treated with a total dose of 60 mg/kg in 2 days (10 mg/kg 3 times daily for 2 days) as control. It was demonstrated that the cure rates of group 1 and control group were 94
