Ankylosing spondylitis ( AS ) is a chronic inlfammatory and progressive disease with the spine and peripheral joints involved, which is the prototype of spondyloarthritis ( SPA ). Non-drug therapy, drug therapy and surgical treatment can be chosen for AS, among which drug therapy is considered as the most important one. Non-steroidal anti-inlfammatory drugs ( NSAIDs ), disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs ( DMARDs ), biological agents, corticosteroids and other drugs are used to treat AS. In order to standardize the treatment of AS, the European League against Rheumatism ( EULAR ) and the Assessments in Ankylosing Spondylitis International Society ( ASAS ) updated the recommendations for the management of AS in 2010, and the rheumatism branch of Chinese Medical Association also updated the guidelines for the evaluation and management of AS in the same year.
