The International Center for Diarrheal Disease Research, Bangladesh, is emphasizing operations research and extension activities to meet the challenges of the International Conference on Population and Development program of action and to move the Bangladesh National Health and Family Planning Program forward. The center has renewed its commitment to finding simple and appropriate strategies to improve reproductive health and ensure the quality and accessibility of health and family planning services. The reorganization of the Health and Population Extension Division is an example of this commitment. The division's main mandate is to conduct operations research and to provide technical assistance to nongovernmental organizations and the government of Bangladesh in their efforts to disseminate research results through publications and seminars to the international community. This paper reports on the broader agenda of the division and presents examples of certain outcomes and policy impacts upon the national program from the work of the division's various projects.
