This article presents an update of the programs being developed by the MEASURE Demographic Health Surveys+ (DHS+) Africa Nutrition Program with support from the US Agency for Internal Development's Africa Bureau. It is noted that the MEASURE DHS+ is promoting the importance of nutrition among policymakers and program planners in response to the issue of malnutrition in the region. Under the program, the data collected on maternal and child nutrition have been expanded to include measures of micronutrient deficiencies (vitamin A and iron), supplementation (vitamin A and iron), and fortification (iodized salt). The measurement of maternal and child anthropometry (height and weight) has been expanded, and data on infant feeding practices (breast-feeding and complementary feeding) are significantly enhanced. New advocacy tools are developed to supplement the nutrition chartbooks of the Africa Nutrition Program, including prototype wall charts and fact sheets and nutrition reports that adapt a summary approach. Moreover, researches and publications on breast-feeding and complementary feeding are being accomplished. Future directions of the program include the expansion of the dissemination of nutrition data to the regions of Asia and Latin America.
