Objective To observe the effects of long term domiciliary oxygen therapy (LTOT)on the quality of life in stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) with hypoxaemia. Methods Thirty two hypoxaemic patients with stable COPD were divided into two groups randomly (LTOT group and control group ). The quality of life (QOL) score were evaluated in both groups. The both groups were received regular treatment and LTOT group was received oxygen therapy with the flow of 0.5~ 2.5 L/min for 15 h or more every day in one year, the quality of life score were evaluated after one year again. Results In LTOT group the total mean score of QOL, social activity score , depression score and anxiety score and general activity score were significantly improved (P< 0.01 or P< 0.05); but in the control group the total mean score of QOL, social activity score anxiety score were significantly worse (P< 0.01), general activity score and depression score did not change( P >0.05) . Conclusions LTOT could improve quality of life
