This paper reports the results of the clinical trial of colchicine instead of corticosteroid treatment in 31 cases of refractory viral hepatitis (11 being acute or subacute liver necrosis, 8 acute heavy icteric hepatitis and 12 chronic active hepatitis). Twenty patients recovered, 3 improved and 5 not improved and 3 with serious hepatitis died of hepatic coma. The recovery rate was 74.2
