Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the arrhythmia most commonly encountered in clinical practice.Although there has been an explosion of research and clinical observations into various aspects of the mechanisms and therapy for AF in the past century, currently the mechanisms remain unclear, and there is no effective prevention and treatment for AF. Since Sakmann and Neher developed the patch clamp technique to measure the ionic current in 1976,the research on arrhythmias (including AF) has gone into microcosmos. Therefore, the study of ionic currents was the major strategy for understanding AF. However,evidence-based medicine has demonstrated that traditional antiarrhythmic drugs (AADs) directly inhibiting ionic channels cannot effectively control sinus rhythm and improve patients' survival. Even a new AAD, dronedarone also failed to decrease morality in patients with AF. On the contrary,in the past decade, catheter ablation has been demonstrated to cure AF,improve symptoms, cardiac function and quality of life, and i
