Objective To enhance the cognition of clinical features and imaging manifestations of Charcot neuroarthropathy ( CN ).Methods Clinical data of a case of CN with bilateral ankles involed were analyzed, and the relevant literature was reviewed. Results Early clinical manifestations of CN included progressive joint swelling, malformation, decreased sensation and joint dysfunction. X-ray showed no overt bony destruction. The MRI revealed periarticular effusion and bone contusion. CT showed exudation of periarticular soft tissues. Conclusions The role of X-ray in the diagnosis of CN in its early stage is unreliable. The misdiagnosis of CN can be avoided based on the medical history, clinical symptoms and MRI or CT examinations. Moreover, an imaging examination of the nervous system is also necessary.
